House project in Ry
At Camilla and Troels' in Ry, it's all fun and games. With five children aged between 2 and 7 years old, daily life can naturally get a bit hectic. But it is also characterized by play and coziness, and this often happens outdoors. As Camilla says: “The best way to come home, after a day at work, daycare, and school – is actually to let the kids ‘calm down’ outside. With a packed lunch in hand, there is ball playing, scooter riding, and trampoline jumping. We actually use our outdoor space all year round. We often light up in the fire bowl, and it is always cozy. The children get rosy cheeks and dirty knees, and that is life quality for us.”
The villa, which Troels and Camilla bought back in 2016, has undergone major renovations. From the original 70s villa, there stands today a minimalist villa – with a very special Nordic expression. “It has been important for us to create an outdoor space with materials that match the house's style. But also an outdoor area that allows room for children's play and adult gatherings,” says Camilla and adds, “and it has indeed succeeded very nicely.”
Baks Architects were responsible for the renovation, and they recommended, in their proposal, the IBF ParkLine as a retaining wall. It was to support the stringent and clean expression. The wall is used in the garden, which faces the lake. The garden is on two levels. The upper level has a large wooden terrace and lawn – and the lower level a play area with trampoline, fire pit, and sandbox. Here, kids can mess around as much as they want, as it cannot be seen from the house. The wall is ideal and provides a beautiful transition. It is 80 cm high and serves well as a seating area for adults when supervising the children's play.
The house facade facing the lake consists of large window sections, framed by wooden slats, which underline the bright Nordic character. The same wooden slats are used by the house's large garage, which adjoins the entrance area and provides a beautiful stringent welcome. The large IBF Soldier tiles fit beautifully into the driveway and match the clean expression. There is ample space to zip around on a scooter, draw with chalk on the tiles, and play wall ball.
As a frame around the front bed of the house, IBF ParkLine is used again. A wall that is also quick and easy to install.
The villa is located with a view of Knudsø and is elevated 3 meters above the surrounding terrain. Therefore, a strong retaining wall was needed. Camilla and Troels chose the well-known IBF Plant Stone Type 8, shaped like a figure-eight. A very robust wall, which lasts many years.
