Jesper Nøddesbo Achieves His Dream with a Cast Concrete Driveway
Don't be mistaken about Jesper Nøddesbo. He knows what he wants... And it's not just about scoring goals on handball courts around the world. No, Jesper has a real knack for style and expression. This became clear when we first met him at his villa in Højbjerg, where we came to discuss an idea he had. He planned to cast his very long driveway in concrete.
Jesper talked about large concrete surfaces, corten steel, cobblestones, and wild flower beds. It was all about preserving the beautiful house that his family had moved into 4 years earlier - a house they wanted to keep the unique atmosphere around.
Jesper had meticulously drawn his house and illustrated a long driveway, which the property never had before. An architect was consulted, and the possibility of dividing the driveway into several levels was explored - and thus there was no doubt. Jesper wanted a cast driveway - and we just had to deliver the concrete. Which we did.
We were allowed to follow the project, and you can see the process and, the beautiful result. The little puppy Eddie was part of the process - and he handled it quite well.
At the entrance, cobblestones have been laid to aesthetically break up the raw concrete surfaces, providing a tranquil and personal experience. For Jesper, choosing cobblestones is particularly meaningful as they remind him of his grandparents, with whom he spent many of his summer holidays. Their courtyard was adorned with cobblestones, which he associates with coziness and warmth.
The beautiful corten steel planters, featuring specially selected flowers and plants, enhance the ambiance.
Cars are parked on a lower level, which creates a calm environment around the entrance area. The levels by the main door are cast with a smooth surface, whereas the path down from the street has a "brushed" finish.
The house was formerly a commune. The original house was built in 1950, and the yellow brick extension was added later in 1960. The garden has a beautiful and relaxed ambiance. Attention has been paid to the details, and from the terrace, you look into a beautiful old elm tree, which gives the garden a special atmosphere. It is a garden meant to be used and invites play and fun for the family's children.
Jesper Nøddesbo used the company FLIB Concrete to cast the concrete, which had 4-5 people working over 2 days. It has to be done quickly because once the concrete flows from the pump, the team must be ready to level and shape the concrete.
