When you're looking to create ambiance on your terrace, in addition to arranging furniture and pots, you can start up the fire bowl. You can make delicious wraps and brew your own tea, as home stylist Lene Eriksen will inspire you to do.
Below you will also find Lene's own recipes for both tea and wraps.
A fire bowl is a beautiful element that creates a great atmosphere on the terrace. It's all about engaging in the great outdoors and making sure your terrace is utilized all year round - even as late summer and fall approach. So why not welcome guests to cozy up by the fire and enjoy delicious wraps? Or just get the family outside, ensuring the important outdoor space is used throughout the year.
Lene’s Own Mint and Ginger Drink
My mint and ginger drink is always a hit. Both young and old enjoy this drink, and it is wonderful with delicious wraps. It can also be enjoyed as a warm drink on a late evening when the dew has settled, and you are wrapped in your cozy blanket.
Water
Suger
Ginger
Lemon
Mint
Mix all ingredients in a pot that can be placed on the fire - like an iron pot.
Taste as you go to get the sweetness and strength right. I use a liter of water, 100 g of sugar, sliced ginger about 10 cm long, an organic lemon in slices, and a generous amount of mint.
The mint turns brown when it gets hot. So when the drink is warm and has been sitting on the fire for a bit (like steeping tea) - use a slotted spoon to remove the mint from the hot drink and add fresh mint to the glasses before serving.
It tastes amazing...
Campfire Wraps
These wraps are super delicious and actually quick to make. They are inviting to serve on the terrace and easy to eat. You don’t need any utensils, and the kids love them. So there's no excuse - just get started.
Use an iron pan for the fire - one that can withstand the heat. The pan gets hot quickly, so be mindful that the tortilla quickly toasts. Don’t put them on the pan until the first wrap is completely ready to go on. If you have an iron pan with ridges, the cabbage will be perfect on it.
Feta cheese
Hellmann’s mayonnaise
Garlic
Neutral cream cheese
Cabbage
Olive oil
Chili oil
Salt/pepper
Peel the cabbage leaves and place them on the grill pan. Generously pour olive oil and a bit of chili oil over the cabbage (omit the chili oil if it shouldn’t be too spicy). Sprinkle salt and pepper on and let the cabbage simmer and get nicely charred!
While the cabbage is simmering on the fire, prepare the mayonnaise.
You can make your own mayonnaise, or you can opt for Hellmann’s mayonnaise and press garlic into it - it tastes heavenly.
Spread neutral cream cheese - like Philadelphia - and the garlic mayonnaise (aioli) on the wrap (be generous with the cream cheese and aioli). Slice cooked potatoes and distribute them on the wrap along with the grilled cabbage.
Crumble feta cheese—like the square Puck from Arla—over it, and let everything simmer on the fire—the filling and the grilled taste make a perfect combination. Fold the wrap together and serve it with the warm mint and ginger drink.
Enjoy...
Decorate a nice table, make a little fuss for the guests... Pick a bouquet from your wildflower bed, and there won't be a dry eye.
Herbs are decorative and beautiful to plant in larger pots. They can actually grow quite large and bushy, so make sure to plant your little "pots" from parsley, mint, or pea shoots out after you've clipped the top off. The little greenhouse is from the hardware store and painted black. Here, you can also enjoy everything from rhubarb and tomatoes to rosemary and thyme.
