A wildflower bed is a unique oasis for bees, butterflies, and many other insects. The bed provides nourishing nectar, pollen, and water to the insects. Not only are you supporting biodiversity by planting a wild bed, but it is also a delight for the eyes. The wildflowers faithfully return year after year.
With a wildflower bed, you will experience fantastic flowers in the garden throughout the summer and into late summer. It's a beautiful element next to your terrace - as shown in this photo series. And think about the lovely bouquets you can decorate your home with or the beautiful bouquet you can bring as a hostess gift.
Wildflowers come in a plethora of colors with different blooming times, and some are annual while others are perennial.
> Place a bowl of water in the garden - and let the insects quench their thirst as they tour your wildflower bed.
How to Sow Your Wild Seeds
1. Choose an open, sunny spot in the garden, i.e., where there is plenty of sun and no buildings or trees to provide shade.
2. Remove the grass and the top layer of soil. About 10-20 cm of soil should be removed.
3. Loosen the soil and mix it with sand and gravel to impoverish the soil - this is especially important if you live in Zealand, where the soil is more clayey and loamy. Sand and gravel can be purchased at your local hardware store.
4. Mix the flower seeds with some sand to make them easier to sow, and spread them out on the soil area. Rake lightly in the soil to cover the seeds and water the area afterward. Then, all you have to do is wait for the seeds to sprout.
Enjoy gardening! :)
