From Global to Local Goals
> Global Goals
In 2015, 196 counties signed the UN's major climate agreement in Paris. Together, thay set a goal:
Avoid the planet's temperature rising more than 2 degrees
The countries committed to sharing their national climate action plans and specifying how much they will reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. However, it is voluntary whether they actually do it.
The countries of the world struggle to deliver results in the climate fight. Since the Paris Agreement, they have only achieved 1/3 of the reductions necessary to prevent the temperature from rising 2 degrees.
> EU's Goals
EU has announced, on behalf of Denmark and the other EU countries, that collectively we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. The EU's climate policy is about achieving that goal. Specifically, Denmark is set to reduce its CO2 emissions by 39% by 2030 compared to 1990.
> National Goals
In Denmark, the government has announced ambitious goals to reduce CO2 emissions by 70% by 2030 compared to the emissions in 1990. The government has established 14 climate partnerships with different sectors in Danish industry, each of which has developed plans for how their sector will succeed in achieving their goals. Based on these recommendations, the various sectors are now working to translate this into their daily operations. One of these is the concrete industry.
> Industry Goal
Based on calculations from the Danish Technology Institute, the industry organization Dansk Beton (Danish Concrete) has developed a roadmap towards 2030, which mandates concrete producers to reduce CO2 emissions by 70% by 2030 compared to 2019.
The calculations from Dansk Beton are largely based on Aalborg Portland's promise to reduce CO2 emissions from cement production by 73% before 2030. This is because the cement from Aalborg Portland, as a component in concrete, accounts for approximately 85% of the total CO2 emissions from concrete. However, at the same time, significant efforts are needed within individual concrete companies. As actors, we must develop new recipes, new products, and invest in, among other things, alternative energy sources and the electrification of the vehicle fleet.
> Local Goals
We are ready to embrace the ambition of a 70% reduction. At IBF, we have laid out a plan to ensure that we meet the industry association's goal for CO2 reduction.
50% CO2-REDUCTION IN SCOPE 1* AND 2*
Through investments in heat pumps, solar panels, energy optimization in production, replacement of parts of the vehicle fleet, and biofuels, we will reduce CO2 emissions by 50% in scope 1 and 2 by the end of 2030.
70% CO-REDUCTION IN SCOPE 3*
Through new types of raw materials, new products, new recipes, and less transportation of raw materials, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 70% in scope 3 by the end of 2030.
