IBF has developed four EPDs based on data from the actual delivery in 2021 of the four types of concrete at all IBF concrete plants, including both set-concrete and flowing concrete, both without fibers.
The development of product EPDs increases transparency, clarifying the environmental impact of concrete for future builders who wish to assess the environmental load of constructing new buildings. In addition to documenting the life cycle of concrete from cradle to grave, IBF also focuses internally on reducing environmental impacts during the production process.
This is achieved by:
Optimizing resource consumption in concrete production.
Installing solar panels on production and administrative buildings.
Reusing water from cleaning concrete mixers for new factory concrete. We strive to recycle all process wastewater.
Collecting rainwater for use in production.
Using returned concrete for new silo blocks. Factory concrete that is returned from construction sites is cast in molds to become new IBF silo blocks.
Crushing returned concrete for use in new concrete as part of circular recycling.
Industry-EPD's
Dansk Beton, of which IBF is a part, has developed industry EPDs based on data from at least 80% of the concrete industry, making it representative of concrete production in Denmark.
There are many datasets with varying impacts, making it particularly important to choose the right dataset for the specific application. IBF can, of course, assist with this.
